FAQs

No. We ask that you do not bring any personal toys from home. We have plenty of toys and chews here for your pet to play with. If you do bring one from home (or purchase one here), there is no guarantee that it will get sent home with them. Pets often take them outside when going to play, and we cannot track them all down.

No. We do not recommend that you send along your pet’s bed. We provide a soft, comfortable, sanitary bed for your pet. Many dogs like to chew up their bedding in a boarding environment, and it is very likely that your personal bedding will get severely soiled, damaged, or destroyed during your pet’s stay — if not by your pet, then by their neighbor. If you bring any bedding, we will ask that you take it back home; otherwise we will bag it and label it for when your pet goes home.

In order to participate in any of our services (boarding, daycare, grooming, and training), your dog MUST be up-to-date on all of the following vaccinations:

Rabies
Distemper-Parvo
Bordetella

You must make an appointment with your vet clinic in order to receive a Rabies vaccination, but both Rabies and Distemper-Parvo are included in the yearly wellness packages. Bordetella vaccinations protect against canine cough and are not included in yearly wellness packages at your local clinics. This vaccination typically has to be requested.

Cats must be up-to-date on all of the following vaccinations:

Rabies
FVRCP

You must make an appointment with your vet clinic in order to receive a Rabies vaccination, but both Rabies and FVRCP are included in the yearly wellness packages.

Your pet has to be re-vaccinated yearly or have received a three-year vaccination. We will also accept yearly titers done by a veterinarian.  Due to Kentucky Law, we cannot accept someone buying a Rabies vaccination outside of Kentucky and administering it themselves. It must be done by a veterinarian.

Please contact your local vet clinic for more information.

It is the client’s responsibility to ensure their pet is up-to-date on their vaccinations before coming in for a service, and to provide proof (a copy) of up-to-date vaccines. If your pet is not up-to-date, we cannot provide the required service, which WILL result in your pet being sent home.

Our number one priority is the health, happiness, and well-being of every pet in our care.

For lodging dogs, if you have purchased our gold package, we will text pictures of your pet to you through our Paw Partners software.  For DayCamp clients, we will text pictures of your pet to you through our Paw Partners software on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, but we cannot guarantee this during our busy months.

Unfortunately, we will no longer be posting adventure/enrichment pictures on our social media pages for 3 reasons:

  1. We constantly receive negative feedback and criticism on posted pictures.
  2. Many clients have expressed privacy concerns regarding publicly posted pictures.
  3. Posted pet pictures push down other valuable and important client information on our pages.

Yes, we like your pet to stay on the same diet to prevent any upset stomach from a switch in food during their stay. Treats are always a welcomed item, but please keep in mind that TWI is a 100% Rawhide Free Facility.

Make sure you provide enough food for the entire stay, plus a few extra days. Travel plans change and inclement weather can cause delays. For example: your dog eats 2 cups of food a day and is staying 10 days. This means he needs roughly 24 cups of food. A 5lb bag only holds approx. 10 cups of food and will not be enough to feed the entire stay.  If your pet runs out of food during their stay, we can pull some food from our retail area and add it to your invoice. Unfortunately, feeding different food may cause diarrhea.

Do NOT bring pet bowls from home. They can become damaged or mixed in with the stainless-steel ones we use for the kennel.

As of March 1, 2022, retractable leashes are not allowed in any kennels for safety reasons. Please bring an alternate leash, or we can provide a slip lead.

Our staff is fully equipped to handle any and all medications that may be needed. This service is included with the purchase of our Silver or Gold package.  There is an additional charge of $15 per injection (insulin, allergy, etc.). There is an additional Injection Information Form that needs to be completed at check-in.

Both Lodging and Day Camp dogs have access to the outdoor portion of their lodging area. In addition to this, Lodging dogs who have purchased a Silver or Gold package will go out for outside an adventure excursion. Day Camp dogs will also receive an outdoor adventure excursion.

Our lodging facilities are divided into separate areas which allow us to separate dogs with special needs from the general population. This includes, but is not limited to, geriatric dogs, aggressive dogs, and dogs with special health concerns (i.e. seizures, insulin dependent, etc.) Please let us know if your pet requires special handling and we will do our best to accommodate their needs.

If your pet needs to stay for longer than 30 days, please ask about our long-term lodging program. We offer attractive discounts and payment plans and can provide other services that your pet may need when left for an extended period of time. You will need to pick your lodging accommodations and package. We do NOT offer a long-term lodging discount during our busy seasons. (May through September, November, and December). We also do not offer a discount for long-term cabin stays. We reserve the right to suspend the long-term discount at any time.

Yes. Reservations ensure there will be room for your pet and allow us to confirm all requirements (like vaccinations) are in order. We are often full on long weekends, holidays, and summer weekends, so call as soon as you book your trip.

No. We do not accept stray or abandoned pets. We do not sell or have pets available for adoption or rescue. We do work with numerous rescue organizations in an effort to give back to our local communities. Please contact local shelters or rescue groups in your area for more information.

Left-behind items like toys, chews, collars, leashes, bowls, or bedding will be donated after 7 days if not picked up. Owners will be notified and have one week to retrieve them.

Yes. At the time you book your reservation we will collect your credit card information. If you do not cancel your stay at least 48 hours in advance, we will charge you for 1 night’s stay per dog. We also charge a no-show fee for grooming appointments. You will also be charged (either a day on your day camp package, or your credit card on file) if you do not cancel your day camp reservation 24 hours in advance.

Please allow at least 15 mins for checking in your pets for lodging. Our team will confirm your pets’ reservations details with you and contact information during the check-in process. Your check-in process can be greatly expeditated by completing the admission paperwork ahead of time.

Yes! We encourage tours of our lodging facilities. This way you can see the lodging accommodation firsthand and find the best fit for your pet. Tours are available from 9am-3pm Monday through Friday outside our busy drop-off and pick-up hours, when the lobby is a bit quieter. No appointment needed, just stop in!

If your pet becomes ill or injured during their stay, we will contact you or your emergency contact person to inform you of your pet’s health and discuss if veterinarian care is in your pet’s best interest. In the case of an urgent emergency situation, our team will immediately transport your pet to our designated facility veterinarian. Please see our Pet Health Guarantee on this page for more information.

Your pet’s health is always our #1 priority. With that in mind, we have created our Pet Health Guarantee program for clients that choose to participate. The program covers the cost of unexpected illness or injury while your pet is staying with us up to $400 per stay/Day Camp package. For our lodging guests; the Pet Health Guarantee is only valid for one stay of 14 days of lodging or less If you’d like to have your pet covered for longer than 14 days due to your reservation being longer, then you must renew this by the 14th day of your reservation.  This program excludes pre-existing conditions, specific conditions, illness due to expired vaccinations, and bloat. Claims must be reported to TWI Pet Retreat management within 48 hours of check out and pet must be seen by our designated facility veterinarian (Ashland — Bluegrass Animal Clinic; Morehead — Cave Run Animal Clinic; Frankfort — Frankfort Animal Clinic). This program is included in our Gold Package or can be purchased for $15 per stay, per dog. In addition, this program can be attached to Day Camp packages. You must purchase the PHG prior to or at check in.

  1. Email, upload to the client portal or bring a physical copy of your pet’s vaccinations records (Rabies, Bordetella, DHLPP)
  2. Behavior Profile for each dog. DOWNLOAD PDF HERE
  3. Lodging Admission Form — Be sure that we have Emergency Contact info. DOWNLOAD PDF HERE
  4. Pet Food — Pack your dog’s usual food and be sure to pack enough for the duration of their stay plus an extra day or two. We would appreciate it if you packed your pet’s food in either pre-portioned packets or large Ziploc bags. If your pet is on a special diet, we will make sure to follow your instructions. Please do not bring large bags of food as we do not have the storage space available.
  5. Medications- If your pet takes any medications, make sure to bring that and directions for proper dosage. We ask that you leave their medications in their original packaging (Prescription bottles, etc.)
  6. Creature Comforts- We understand that dogs like to have a blanket that smells like home. This gives your dog something familiar to snuggle with and makes bedtime a little cozier. You may pack a small blanket, (50”x60”) one per pet. Please understand that we cannot guarantee its return or in the condition that you left it with us. Please do not bring blankets with a lining.
  7. Toys — We are sure your dog’s enjoy playing with their toys at home. While visiting with us, your dog’s day will be more active than at home. We have found that dogs in our care really don’t play with their toys as much because of the activity they are involved with throughout the day. Please leave those precious, favorite toys at home for your pet to enjoy once they return.
